The winners are (drumroll) honest-to-gosh Fauxtographers!

Those real-deal Photographers took Team Smite Council to the cleaners and absolutely waxed us, posting 2nd, 3rd, and 6th in the final challenge of the season, "People at their Jobs". And the magnitude of their victory is only underscored by the fact that they didn't even need to USE their 2nd-place image from that challenge since Texdon (apparently the next DPC superstar) had already garnered a 1st-place Blue in the "Transportation" challenge.

We on Team Smite had been feeling reasonably confident as we discussed our own scores while the voting was winding down, utterly unaware of the tsunami of excellence that was about to sweep us away :-) Between the two teams we accounted for 7 of the top 10 finishers in the final challenge.

So, WTG Fauxtographers! You deserved it! And WTG everyone else who participated in DPL5, it was just a lot of fun and it attracted a lot of folks back to the mother ship :-)

As a member of the other team with a perfect record I want to say it has been a joy being back. I have had many interesting discussions with my teammates as well as wonderful interactions with many of the other great photographers on the site. Team Spleen has been busy voting and discussing (since we are unsure when we will lose our thread) so that we are able to pass out Spleen bling through the Free Study. I will miss the thread and the regular team discussions. Thanks for another great DPL.

Oh wow!!! What a team!!!

Congrats to everyone who participated. Smite Council, you pushed us to our limits and just that little bit beyond. :-)

It was a really special experience to be a member of the Fauxtographers under the brilliant leadership of Texdon. We said a few days ago, irrespective of how this is going to end, we had a fabulous time. We have had several PB scores, and pushed each other to make good photos better.
One of our members even had Covid and still managed to submit amazing work.

Thanks everyone for playing!

I so fortunate to be part of the Fauxtographers team, and quite pleased that we won this time! It certainly pushed me to capture photos I would not have otherwise and think outside the box. Thank you to everyone that participated in DPL 5 and to DPChallenge for putting it on.

Congratulations to the winners!
It was great getting back into it and I had a bunch of fun:)

That said, we might be the most disappointed losers since we ended up finishing first in regard to percentage but were nowhere near the top otherwise!

I do know we put together a great team with a diverse group of great photographers and I look forward to the next DPL -
although maybe the bracket format could be reconsidered?

I'm not clear how that even happened. And too stressed-out right now (not DPC-related) to probe. But out of curiosity, how would you change the brackets? What do you think is a viable alternative?

Good job everyone!! Thank you all for the great images & completion.

I can't thing but that it would be fun to do these more often, but over a longer period of time, with perhaps only one image being due each week instead of two, or maybe, I just feel that way since my life was unusually stressful and hectic during DPL5....

Cheers All

The reason it is two is so that registered members have a chance to compete alongside paying members. And that serves as an incentive to join, as you get twice the chances to do something for the team... We DO need to encourage paying members, it's not cheap to keep this place running :-)

What a gracious congratulation speech, Bear!

I hope next DPL will REQUIRE newbies and ribbon hogs to be regulated to 'x' many per team.

I have not looked at the team mix of Fautographers, so this is not about the teams this year. It's about rebuilding DPC, by building teams with a wide mix of talent/history, as Bear so adequately requested of us before team selection.

I had a fantastic time this year, as usual.

Congratulations to all who participated!

Just curious, was the whole "Ribbon Hog" thing a problem in DPL5?

Congratulations to the winners, thanks to my team for showing up to the plate, and nice work to all the DPL participants. Hopefully this will happen again soon.
Please stick around, DPC needs you!

We are fervently hoping that the community will help make this work by NOT stacking their teams with “ribbon hogs”: we'd like to see each team have at least 1 each of non-ribboners and DPC newbies. It makes the competition so much more interesting.

Nope, absolutely not.
We addressed the issue proactively, it was not possible to finalize a "stacked" team.

The bracket format is what makes DPL a sport and not a mere math exercise. There is no problem here. This is how sports works. "On any given Sunday" one team can beat any other team.

Huge congrats to the winners!! I messed up this year and wasn't as available as I would have liked to have been. I hope it's done again soon! My only thought would be to change the number of teams that move forward to the finals, since we have fewer teams competing.

But it was so good to see this back. And perhaps following it up with another one very soon would get people to stay around?

Congratulations to the WINNERS! What fun this was for all.

Good analogy and an excellent point. And TBH, I should have put a winky face on there because it was kind of a joke because changing the format would be a task that would be tedious and wouldn't necessarily benefit anyone and I wouldn't expect it to change.

That said, since much of the success of the site is based on anonymous submitting and voting, the images any given team submits will be the same regardless of which team they are facing since this isn't a head-to-head format by nature.
I suppose you could say "Guys, we are facing Team X this round, so give it your best" And I suppose as a team we could have trash-talked the other teams ... or sent them threatening messages ;P LOL ... maybe that would have helped! HAHA

Is it a tad sour grapes on my part? Probably :)
