Ok -- it's a tiramisu cake from Fresh Market. The comfort food that came to mind first was stew -- but I really didn't want to cook and do photography. The next thing that came to mind (so that I didn't have to cook) was fresh market. When we want a dessert comfort food, we go to their bakery section. Their baked goods are so incredibly beautiful -- you can't decide if you want to look at them or eat them. Either way, they truly are a comfort food, because you can just sink into them and let your worries just melt away...

This actually wasn't my comfort food. My husband, daughter and I went and we each got to pick out our own comfort food, and I was going to photograph each one. I started with my husband's on Saturday night, just to play with a modified light box to see what happened.

I really couldn't think of anything interesting to do with it. Since there were so many layers, I put it on a mirror to double the layers, but I didn't like the look.

However, I loved the way the sponge cake turned out in the close up. All of the little holes that probably sopped up simple syrup and coffee and cream and all of the good stuff...

anyway... you get the idea. :)

My comfort food was a strawberry pillow. It was a croissant, filled with whipped cream and strawberries, drizzled with chocolate, and sprinkled with powdered sugar. What I was planning on doing with it was a shot with a darker background, side lighting, and sprinkling powdered sugar to make it "snow" on the dessert.

That was supposed to be on Sunday night.

Nope. Bad migraine. Luckily I had shot the tiramisu the night before (because my husband had wanted to eat it!!), so I had an entry. :)

Thanks for the wonderful comments. :)

Seriously?? A yellow?? You people are crazy! But I'm greatly appreciative anyway. :)

Thank you. :)

I think read that rule backwards, the yellow and red need to share their food with the blue. I'm absolutely certain about that. :)

That cake looks so moist and delicious. Congrats on the ribbon!

Love the cake, but the images is lacking a bit of contrast, especially in the creamy parts of the image.

Yummie! Would like to see that one with a latte-macchiato-brown background. Think t would add warmth to the image. Would also have left some more of the cake reflection, perhaps.

Looks yummy - and I'm sure it must be tasting even better - but that's a DNMC, nonetheless... I know it was not you who baked it... ;-)
But in fact, the image does convey a very inviting and delicious dessert - it waters my mouth, especially the details in the dough and layers. Well done!

Awesome cake. Image diminished by ultra bland white background. Some sort of shading or a slightly different color would have really made this cake pop.
