The arts... I have a daughter that paints, and I thought about doing something with that, but I didn't really have any ideas.

It really would be fun to try shooting a ballerina. There have been such wonderful shots on here with ballerinas.

So I called a mom in my book club and asked her if I could bribe her daughter to do a photo shoot with her daughter for about an hour. She figured that it might work. Her daughter agreed.

Awesome!!!

Then her daughter called back about 5 minutes later -- a friend of hers had the same outfit, how about two ballerinas?

Ummm.... ah.... I panic a little and say "sure!" As I'm thinking to myself: I have absolutely no idea what in the world I was going to do with one. What the heck would I do with two???

So went went out to the college and went to Wren hall -- and we just played! It really was a wonderful time.

This particular shot is part processing and part lighting. The lighting coming in was beautiful -- it lit the girl on the bench nicely, but not enough. I brought my new shoot through umbrella and a flash and set it up off to the side to aid the light a bit a have it wrap around a little bit farther. When looking at the scene, I liked that the ballerina in the doorway was silhouetted. When looking at the finished product, she was mostly silhouetted, but I didn't like it at all. I used the RAW processing, and then photoshop to adjust that so that there was more fill.

My goal this year is to learn about lighting, and so far that it the primary thing I'm learning. The dramatic lighting that I seem to think I want all has much more fill that I ever expected.

I was so incredibly pleased with this shot. It's so unlike anything I've done before. That's why I stick with this place. It continues to give me excuses to broaden my horizons in ways that would never occur to me. (obviously I need a better imagination, and then I wouldn't need DPC, but it's just easier this way. :)

Thanks for all the incredible comments and for the favs! It was exciting -- for about 4 days it was even in profile range. :)

The composition is admirable. Same for the tonality and mood. The best of the ballerina series.

you know what I especially like about this image? It has an impressionist quality about it, without being obvious. It is beautiful -- the lighting, the composition, the processing -- I think they are all top notch!

I thought this was a variation including a mirror somehow to create this image. It is just beautiful Wendy, glad to see you are not becoming bored here and still growing. Congratulations!

SOOooo glad this got the Blue for you, Wendy! It's gorgeous and so perfect for the challenge.

Well... I mean if you can't get a ballerina as gorgeous and graceful as mine for this challenge, yours are really pretty! *grin*

Well done, girl!

Beautiful work with the light both during the shoot and in processing - I really envy how you can bring forth your vision! And how cool is it that a 7.5 doesn't even break into your top row? :-)

Beautiful work Wendy. Your work needs to be seen by more than just a DPC audience. You are an artist and should have this along with many others up in a gallery somewhere.
