I have photographed abandoned buildings and cars so this time I decided to try to find a forgotten boat. I discovered that there was a ship graveyard in a tributary of the Chesapeake Bay called Curtis Creek. This was historically a place where ships were deposited and abandoned as far back as the Revolutionary war. Most of the ships are below water or only partially exposed and all of them are in a state of advanced decay. I read that the best access to view the wreckages is by kayak. I've never been in this part of Baltimore before and headed down to see what I could find without getting in the water. It is an industrial area and as I drove through the worn out and potholed roads I discovered that all accesses to the creek were off limits because of the factories which lined the shore. I couldn’t even see the water. I became discouraged but decided to cross a short bridge to the other side. As I was crossing the bridge I saw out of the corner of my eye what appeared to be the remains of a boat below on the side I had just come from. I turned around and found a road which ran parallel to where I thought the boat would be. Then I saw a parking lot and I drove through the gate hoping that it extended to the rivers edge. There it was about 50 yards in the middle of the creek. The most beautiful rotting boat I have ever seen! I got out of the car and found a path up to a broken fence with visual access to take a few pictures. I was so excited my hands were shaking! Luckily I had the camera set for a fast shutter speed. Most of the shipwrecks in the creek are undocumented. Unfortunately I was unable to find any information about the boat in my picture. I will have to remember this place if we have an underwater challenge!

Great color, cool find. I like how you can see the water line marks going up the boat.
