was crazy getting this shot ....
i noticed this fly caught in the spider's web on the brick wall when i went outside ..
back in the day i'd be running to get my camera to capture the action .. but i was feeling pretty uninspired ...
so i took toddy for a walk instead .. was gone at least half an hour ..
getting back to the house i noticed the fly still struggling to escape the web .. i had my camera with me with the 60mm macro lens on and the flash .. so i was all set up to take photos ...

i feel this is totally an epic fail .. the fly landing on the spider's web and facing certain death .. size doesnt matter in the insect world ... it really was touch and go for him ..

ps .. after i'd taken a few shots the fly miraculously escaped .. it was when the spider got really close and reared up in front of him .. maybe he made a herculean effort at that time ...
I did get a photo of that but because of the very shallow dof the spider was oof.. :(
anyway the story had a happy ending for the fly .. maybe in the end the epic fail was the spider's .. !! ..

after rollover ..
WOW .. I GOT OVER 7 .. !!! ..
stoked about that .. thankyou little spider and fly .. your struggle was not wasted lol ..
thankyou so much everyone for your comments during voting and after ..
much appreciated .. xx

ps.. i was absolutely thinking of this challenge when I saw the spider and the fly ...

Beautiful photo Roz. Love your story with it. I guess I would go with your last statement - the epic fail was the spider's :-) Congrats on the ribbon

Bummer for the fly, but that spider is about to have a feast.

Great macro. Spot on DOF on all the subjects. Not easy to do. I like the real life action your story tells about nature. It’s not always pretty but it is necessary.
