totally unplanned like a lot of my photos with ppl ..
this is Fred who is my brother's wife's brother .. is that complicated enough for you .. ;)

he was with his wife Melissa down at the road putting stuff in the rubbish bins .. i was in the grass looking for insects with toddy .. with the lensbaby on the camera ..

its challenging getting the focus right with the Lensbaby sweet35mm .. all manual .. you can change where the sweet35 is pointing because its on a ball socket into the composer proII .. and that changes where the focus will be .. can be a bit hit and miss sometimes ..

anyway .. toddy wanted to go down and talk to them so of course we did .. ;)

Fred loves toddy and toddy loves Fred ..
Fred sometimes drops in to say hello and i think he's come to see toddy and not me .. lol ..

anyway .. Fred picked up toddy .. i got a couple of shots before Fred realized i was taking photos .. then he got silly ..

i was fortunate i got that shot .. because i love it .. lucky me .. :)

OMG .. i've just gotta say this is going awesome in the challenge .. !!
thankyou for all the lovely votes .. and three comments so far .. just a day in .. and no matter how it ends up the voter's reaction has been wonderful ..

i feel it's possible that some of the ppl who really like this photo are picking up how deep this emotion goes ..
Fred was diagnosed with alzheimer's a couple of years ago and its obvious that its affecting him .. it's a great sadness in our family ..

also Fred and Melissa are grieving over the loss of their son Jacob who passed away on the 13th January 2020 .. he was only 19 years old .. so in some ways little toddy is being like a therapy dog for our Fred ..

me and Jacob had a great connection because a lot of things he was facing i had been through as well .. it can be a very painful thing to see someone struggling .. even more so when some of the things that helped you they are unwilling or unable to try ..

if anyone was interested i put together a slideshow for the family .. as a memory of his life .. i put it in vimeo ..
Jacob's life in photos

after rollover ..
thankyou everyone for your kind and thoughtful comments .. it means a lot .. xxxx

Amazing my friend ... the emotions that come through brought a tear to my eye ... he looks as though he is saying goodbye to his precious companion

This is perfection, Roz. Lensbaby perfection. Love perfection. Emotion perfection. BW perfection... I could go on, but what I'm really trying to say is that this is perfect.

I love it.

Excellent picture Roz. Fred's warmth is matched by Toddy's sweet glance back with a touch of worry in it. The lensbaby just made all goodness spread it in the world.
I did not look or vote in this challenge (ha? Twice in a week)but it should have been 10, obviously

Oh my goodness Roz. Thank you for sharing the story behind this image. While this photo certainly stands on its' own, I love when words can be put behind it to fill in the details. In this case it's difficult read as it tugs strongly at the heart. I don't think I'm ready to view Jacob's life in photos ... the grief those parents must bear.

The man is deeply expressive. Not sure the dog is happy. Also, not a fan of the blur.
Even so, my personal favorite of the challenge. Definitive depiction of "cherished."

Fantastic, the warmth really comes across, although more from the man to the dog than vice versa. I like the use of the blur here (lensbaby?). I find it often difficult to apply but here it works really well. Best in challenge.
