only a day into voting and thankyou for the two anonymous comments so far .. xx

i'm just going to say .. it was a NIGHTMARE trying to get the shadow under Ali and Leo to look natural .. and to match the one under the robberfly ..
i tried so many edits with that shadow and each time i thought i'd got it right .. then coming back to it i realized it hadnt .. very time consuming ..

anyway .. i was just lucky i had visited my daughter in the challenge time-frame and took photos of her and Leo at the beach .. the robberfly was never on my radar to use for anything .. just a lucky shot on the fence post ..

i was thinking of this challenge and remembered another nightmare challenge back in 2009 which i had won with .. yes you guessed it .. another robberfly .. ;)
..

decided to combine the robberfly on the fence with one of the photos i'd taken of Ali and Leo for this challenge ...

dont know where this will end up with 6 days of voting to go ..
but what a learning experience .. i'm just a baby when it comes to shadows and combining two pics .. especially when they have different light sources .. ;)

Yes, handling shadows AND depth of field at the same time can be very tricky. I love these challenges, it is a great way to work on new skills, opening new horizons each time! Anyway, this is a great image, and I'm glad you got some ribbon for it, much deserved. Congrats!

Life would be very different, wouldn't it! Maybe would be think twice before killing a fly... Love it, this is very good.

This looks like one of roz's robberflies. That leg reaching out is truly alarming.

This is definitely nightmarish, Roz! Flies are not pretty to me, although they probably are to you. People don't understand my frogs and toads either. :D

I wish the light sources matched a bit better, but that's hard to capture it all at the same light. But, being the Bug Whisperer... Couldn't you have asked him to turn a bit? :D

Good entry, Roz! Perfect for the topic.
