 Interesting facts about yellow jackets:
They are actually wasps not bees
They do not have barbs on their stingers. They are smooth so they can sting
multiple times whereas bees can sting only once and die afterwards.
Workers will live about 22 days. The queen can live over a year.
Colonies can have up to 15,000 workers
They are found worldwide
They are omnivorous. They eat insects for protein and most anything else for
sugar.
They are highly aggressive and the venom can be lethal.
They can fly up to 30 mph
They communicate with each other by the release of chemicals called
pheromones to alert others in the colony. They do not use cellphones!

Great capture. I once got stung 3 separate times in the space of 20mins. I’m not allergic to stings, but I had to pop a few Benadryl as my body didn’t take too kindly to the venom. This lens is on my bucket list.
