This is how I see a great evening, sitting by a blue pool a few lilly pad around, and some enjoyable nibbles and a beverage or two.

This is an abandoned stretch of canal in the village.

Now the details on how it was achieved, very simple and a bit of a cheat.

In Photoshop
1. Neat Image
2. Feivels Gothic Glow Action.
( the cheat, as it was too much of a pain to replicate this manually)
3. A little tweaking with Colour Balance and Selective Colour to get the greens in the background more even, which as a total surprise to me also introduced some iridescence into the leaves at the front
4. Played with levels to darken the image slightly.
5. Cropped and Sized for DPC.

Beautiful! Seems a tiny bit dark in the shadows on my monitor, but it's still a great image.

Thanks to everyone. I am truly chuffed with this result.
The irony was I only entered this at the last moment, I had gone to bed feeling unwell having not made a submission, but after a few hours I woke up and then could not get back to sleep.

So to occupy my mind I spent some time editing a number of images I had taken over the previous 7 days. And this was the outcome…

I decided to give it a shot and see as I was a little concerned that it would be knocked for some heavy processing…

I am surprised that this score got me got a ribbon. So as I said to someone a few minutes ago, I will now proudly hang this virtual ribbon on my virtual wall..
Thank to everyone in DPC land.

Ian

I don't normally contribute to the post-challenge congratulatory comments, but in this case, I'll make an exception. Well done Ian.

This has a nice, dreamy, surreal feeling.. i like it a lot

Though I really like the colours this is a little too processed for my taste - everything is much too "soft" for me. Compositionally I would lose the right hand side to leave a very strongly framed image. Otherwise it is very well thought out with the plants in the foreground balancing the image out very nicely.

Softness makes it dreamy. The green objects in front is what makes it work for me, I'm less interested in the top half. The dark blue and greens look great, the average tones of the top half do nothing. 7

Reminiscent of 18/19th century pastoral landscape paintings. Check out //www.tate.org.uk/servlet/CollectionDisplays?roomid=1992 . Its a very evocative scene. I particularly like the shift from a dark foreground receding into a lit background with ones view partially obstructed by foliage thus creating a sense of unattainability. The lit fields are on the other side of the river bank/lake and beyond my reach. Congratulations on a truly beautiful photo. Wonder if you'd be willing to share the technique you used? I'd love to try and replicate something like this.

Very nice, very nice indeed. Wish my dreams looked this this, LOL! I like the feel of the overall shot, the composition, the balance, the only thing that throws me off just a bit is the dark lower left corner. Maybe you were going for the idea that the dream fades off into nothingness but I'm not really good at the in depth meaning of most shots, I just know if I like it or not, LOL! :O The corner doesn't really bother me so much, it does work well, it's just the way it suddenly goes black, a more subtle fade might have worked better for my taste personally.

A 9

This is a very soothing image...just beautiful. Very peaceful, and very much the misty surrealism that all the best dreams have :-) Great shot!

This is my second go-around =) - Beautiful! I love the gentle feel of it. It feels like it should have a rectangular horizontal crop... the square crop doesn't feel right. However, great job!!!! 9

Very nice dreamy effect however it's rather dark especially towards the bottom. I feel like there is a need for more light in many areas of the photo. 6.

You and I have a similar entry, altho I believe yours is a notch up from mine! :) I'm not doing as well as I had hoped with it. I hope my "9" will help out your average if you're suffering from the "don't like soft focus" crowd!
