[Oct. 8th, 2008 09:11:46 PM]

I was pleased and confused to check my score on this shot about an hour past roll-over...an 8.667?!! That's a number I have never seen past three votes! I kept an 8 until vote 50. It was hard to see it go. As I write this, I am at about 140 votes and have been dropping like a rock in the past ten votes (currently 7.82). I hope this doesn't continue!

I started this shoot by taking Rowan outside in her Snow White dress to take a shot of her eating "the apple". I processed that shot and liked it so well I almost quit then thinking I'd skip on my vision and just enter the shot of her.

I printed the shot of Rowan and taped it to a little mirror that I use everyday. I bought a little curtain trim to tape to it to make it "fancy". My "crown" is also curtain trim (taped to a headband). I pulled out all my fun make-up and had a blast trying to do my face in an evil yet somewhat becoming way that was necessary for the "second most fair" in the land.

I took this shot in our studio. Tim was available to hit the shutter on the first few attempts and then he needed to leave so I had to use my big toe to hit the plunger. I have to tell ya, it's really hard to try to look all cool & evil & stuff while you are wriggling your toe to hit a tiny button that is almost three feet away and suspended in the air!

I am very pleased with how it turned out and I hope this score get's me a ribbon but I suspect there are plenty of "7 plus" scores in this challenge. If nothing else, I hope it stays above 7.48 so it can dethrone my stupid "Peepcock" as my new personal best!!

Boring details: Shot in RAW - RAW conversions. Photoshop - levels, neat image, dodge/burn, blur, USM, minor cloning, curves, desat, hue/sat, super fun happy action, crop, save for web.

The shot in the mirror -

THANK YOU FOR ALL THE GREAT VOTES & COMMENTS!

Lovely shot, Aimee - very good indeed! what a beautiful daughter shot too - I would probably have put it in as well, and then see who is fairest of them all - close tie?

Anyway - I have this picture of you tottering on a stood in your studio, with your flexible big toe fishing around for the mid-air button, and the image is a hoot - (made me laugh, anyway), and I would have loved to see some of you trying to get the shot. Never mind, this is the real pix. I am most impressed with the shot in the mirror - your printer must be fantastic - which one is it?

Anyway, congratulations on your ribbon - very well deserved!!!

Sheesh man...give me some credit! I may be blonde but... : ) I have several reasons for using the plunger...not the least of which was to allow me to stay put rather than continuously resetting myself (under black fabric - getting my hands and mirror right - resticking my cheapo fingernails, etc.). It's not like a simple bubble shot or deer head! ;)

LOL.

Amiee, This picture is amazing. I knew it was yours the second I saw it and thought it would totally win this challenge. There were a lot of good entries but I think this should have taken the blue and then some. Congrats on your new ribbon and a new PB.

Congratulations, Aimee, on a well-deserved ribbon. I've been around long enough now to have recognized you, but wrongly assumed you were modeling for Tim's entry. Love the story, too. Cheers!

And the peepcock is dethroned! Excellent image from concept through execution. Nothing against the first place shot (you know me and B&W) but this was my top pick for the challenge by a long shot - simply perfect for the challenge. Could be used as a movie poster! Love the bit about the big toe.... I'll have to try that some day.

This looks brilliant, great lighting. If I were you I'd have held my right hand more straight-on and less to the side, to really make it look like you're holding a hand-held mirror. The position of your hand makes it obvious to me that it's a photo frame and doesn't have a handle. Other than that minor detail, this is awesome and think it'll do very well.

Absolutely wonderful! The green eyes (jealousy), the blue eyes (innocent), the evil sneer captured at a perfect angle. This is just stunning!!!!

I am looking forward to your explanation of how you did this, my family and I have been arguing over the potential process ever since this came on the screen.

A well-deserved 10! And I sincerely hope a ribbon, as well.

I like the concept a lot and I can't argue you have great lighting and good composition, but for some reason it seems like something is missing to me. Maybe it would have been more authentic looking with a cool background like a stone wall lit by torches or something.
