Big thanks to Nick, our friends' son, who endured dressing up in a greek tunic (a.k.a. table cloth), and posing for me on a chilly winter San Diego evening (I know, I know, it sounds like an oxymoron, but it does get a bit chilly in San Diego in winter), with a big bowl of fire in his hands. The window of time when the fading daylight would balance nicely with the fire was very short, only a few minutes, and the flame is rather unpredictable, so I am glad we got at least one good shot out of it.

...sorry for the flip-flops. Perhaps they look slightly out of place, but I did not want Nick to catch cold :). I could've easily cloned them out in p/p, but did not want to risk DQ. Probably would not happen anyway, but who knows these days.

Second blue in a row, and four ribbons out of five last challenges. What is going on?! Thank you!!

I see that people are giving you a hard time for having two blues on the front page. I'd like to help you out. You can feel free to give me one of the blues to take some of the heat off. :P

Congrats!! Beautifully done!

Aw man. Your 'the girl and the sea' is now off your top few in your profile... Is it the same location?
Excellent shot, by the way. Beautiful clouds, sunset, everything!

Congratulations on the blue! :)
Very much deserved. I wouldn't worry about the sandals too much. I agree with one poster who said they could pass for older looking sandal types. Look at the Esparto sandals here //en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandal . With some minor cloning touchups you can really make those fit in.

eta: Congrats on the 1x post as well.

But, but, where's the air?? j/k Nice and sharp, and the glow from the fire was just enough to light up his face and chest areas. Nailed it!

An inevitable win; no other result was possible. Sandals are fine, never occurred to me to question them. Congrats on the blue twofer...

Lev, amazing image. I've tried, unsuccessfully, to balance fire and available light. I know how hard it is. Excellent job. The flip flops could easily pass for old sandals on my screen. I think it was best to leave them in.

Congratulations on the blue! Be careful you don't get addicted to them...

Hey congrats on your well-deserved blue. I gave this a 10. Really, really beautiful shot.
Reading your notes, maybe you really should have cloned out the flip-flops. *grin*

Nice job. I think the water wash on the beach is a bit distracting. That's a tough one to solve because it is a direct reflection of the sun. I might have brought up the light on the model a bit more, and put a snoot on a flash toward the face to mimic the candle light.

excellent detail. i like the composition. i appreciate the amount of effort given for this shot. and it was well worth it to have come up with this beautiful image. the warm sunset/sunrise shares the frame with the cool splashes of waves. the model's costume speaks well of the basic materials we derive from the earth. i can almost feel the cool breeze of air as it touches the skin. simply beautiful. all four elements combined in harmony for this wonderful shot. 10

Absolutely fantastic. My very favorite so far! I have only seen 21% but my guess is this is going to stay one of my favorites. I hope you ribbon, the blend of eye candy, mood, and mystery is fantastic. 9

Great texture in the water, rock, and sand. Very nice color in the sky. Is this done completely with natural light? If so, I think it could be improved with a bit of strobism to highlight the woman a bit more--maybe even just one light from camera left. Still, very nice.

Beautiful shot! I feel like the shout would be better without the sandles, they look too much like flip-flops and pull away from the "period" feel of the rest of the image.
