You would not even want to know how many shots I did of this egg to get the final photo. Lighting was so tricky. I used only a pen-sized flashlight at the back of the egg, (no flash) and the egg itself was propped up in a small stand. The shot was taken in a darkened room with only the small penlight as a source of light. Every time I moved the egg to try different effects, the yolk would slip out. Then I would have to clean up the mess and start over...sometimes with a different egg! It was the sloshing of the egg yolk that created the bubble, but I decided this just gave it a more "cosmic" look. Sharpened just a bit and resized in PS Elements 2.

Thanks to all of you for your votes and for your comments, which truly do help. I'm here to learn, so I take all constuctive criticism positively. This is my first ribbon on DP Challenge, and I was shocked and excited to find my Cosmic Egg had placed 2nd with a Red ribbon! I'm a previous SLR user and have just gone to digital a few months ago.
Thanks again!!

7. I'm not sure about DOF - did you try a version with the holder in focus? My eye is drawn to the inside of the egg, and it's the shell that is in focus. And what most let it down for me is that it needs rotating - and there seems no good reason for it being tilted slightly. Nice try though

Very nice! This is prolly the prettiest of all the egg pictures. I really like it! The exposure is perfect, the coloring is lovely, the opening is just the right size, and I love the lighting. Definetly one of my favorites this week. Good luck!

I love this photo, what was the egg held in? The bubble in the egg is so well placed, and the hole so perfect. Very well done indeed!

Like the concept! Great lighting and color. Would have liked to see either more or less of the object that is holding the egg.

Neat idea!! I really like the colors here - I can't imagine how many eggs it took to get the hole right. Nice lighting. 8

The lighting on this shot is really great. It gives a very cosmic quality to the rather banal subject of an egg. I think it fits the challenge perfectly, instilling interest into the rather boring subject that is the egg.
